I have the privilege of joining the excellent teachers and staff at Burk this year. I am loving getting to know the students on my caseload. My primary goal is to work with students on their IEP goals which are based on each child's Individual Education Plan to address their strengths and needs in communication. As well as providing direct therapy to the children, my role includes consultation to teachers and parents. Periodically, I may be sending general and specific ideas to assist you as you interact with your child to help them increase their communication skills. I believe the child’s family support significantly affects their progress. I hope these resources will be helpful.
If you want to support your child through speech and language activities at home, please let me know. Additionally; if you have any questions or concerns; please call or email me, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child this year!
I am so excited to begin the 2016-2017 school year! I will be working with students K-6th with communication needs. This is my nineteenth year working as a SLP and my seventeenth year in Gilbert Public Schools. I have worked the past three years at Islands Elementary and prior to that at Houston Elementary. I am so excited to help your student grow in their communication skills, which will improve their success in the classroom, community and family relationships.
As a SLP, my focus is on language comprehension (ability to understand what is said and follow directions), expressive language (ability to put words and thoughts together), speech production (articulation and intelligibility) and pragmatic (social language) skills. My goal is to help each child gain the best possible growth in communication skills by achieving their IEP goals. My passion is to help students know their goals and motivate them through a variety of activities and technology to progress as quickly as possible.
On a personal note, I grew up in Tempe and moved to Gilbert in 1989 with my husband. I’m an ASU alumni. We have two grown children who are married and live in the Valley. Our extended families also live nearby, so we are blessed to spend time with family on a regular basis. In addition to family time, I enjoy tech time, camping, traveling, reading, and exercising.
